1. DISQUALIFICATION AND THE LAW.
Speeding convictions are structured - the greater the excess, the greater the penalty. The normal range, per offence, is as follows:

Exceeding the limit by between 5 and 14mph 3 points
Exceeding the limit by between 15 and 19mph
4 points
Exceeding the limit by between 20 and 24mph 5 points
Exceeding the limit by between 25 and 29mph 6 points
Exceeding the limit by 30mph or more Banned

Endorsements remain on your licence for:
• 11 years from date of conviction for offences relating to drink/drugs and driving, causing death by careless driving whilst under the influence of drink/drugs and causing death by careless driving then failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
• 4 years from date of conviction for reckless/dangerous driving and offences resulting in disqualification.
• 4 years from the date of offence in all other cases

SP codes that will appear on your licence after endorsement(s)

SP10 = Exceeding goods vehicle speed limits
SP20 = Exceeding speed limit for type of vehicle (excluding goods or passenger vehicles)
SP30 = Exceeding statutory speed limit on a public road
SP40 = Exceeding passenger vehicle speed limit
SP50 = Exceeding speed limit on a motorway
SP50 = Undefined speed limit offence

All of these offences will acquire between 3 and 6 penalty points.

Over 250,000 motorists will be disqualified this year.
Around 2 million will be prosecuted for speeding alone!
(By the way, a recent survey has confirmed that 97% of us admit that we speed regularly!).

2. A CAR IS STOLEN EVERY SECOND.
Donít think your insurance policy will keep you mobile if your car is stolen and not recovered... because it wonít! You only get a courtesy car if your cover is comprehensive AND the car is recovered and repairable. Itís likely that you will be without a car for the entire time it takes to settle your claim, meaning that you either have to hire a car - or take the bus!

3. THERE IS A VEHICLE ACCIDENT EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY.
If your car or bikeís off the road after an accident, will you get a replacement from your insurers? Sure, some companies provide a courtesy car - if oneís available - but again, only when your car is repairable. If itís a write off you wonít get a courtesy car. Youíll also have to wait for the claim to be settled, which can often take weeks. REMEMBER, YOUR CAR INSURANCE IS THERE TO PROTECT THE CAR - NOT YOU!
